When you shop, volunteer, or donate at Amy’s Armoire, you help children and families right here in Vermont. We try to fill the gaps that foster, adoptive, and kin families experience in an overstretched and underfunded system.

SHOP

SHOP: You may not even need money!

Shop in our thrift store in Barre!

Amy's Armoire is a thrift store at 114 North Main Street, Barre, Vermont. Our prices are set for affordability. We're a non-profit with a mission; proceeds from the thrift store benefit foster children through individual and programmatic outreach.  Nothing is over $5 in the main store! The Annex to Amy's Armoire is priced from $.25-$100.

Foster, foster-adoptive parents, and families raising kin may qualify for FREE or discounted clothing from the main store or donation Center and supplies such as toys, books, furniture, and baby equipment are always free to those families day or night if needed. We currently have storage units in 3 districts for greater accessibility. For access to any of these items or help us expand this service to other districts, reach out to Amy.

Amy's Armoire accepts DCF-Family Service vouchers for clothing from any district. Low-income Vermonters can request a shopping voucher through Economic Services workers. We also accept vouchers from churches, shelters, domestic violence programs and many other programs. We have a program to help those who have aged out of foster care and are between the ages of 18-26.

We also have a Pay it Forward program where people can purchase an undesignated gift card for those in need up to $10.

We're here to resource families with clothes and the connections they need.

DONATE

DONATE CLOTHES

Donate gently used clothes at our Barre thrift store any time the store is open.

Rehome your unwanted clothes! You can keep them out of landfills and give them new life by making them available for purchase by others. We accept adult clothing up to size 5X, as well as maternity, baby and children's clothes, hospital scrubs, purses, jewelry, children's books, and toys (in great shape, in working order, clean and with all pieces) on Saturdays 10-2 at the Donation Center (74 South Main Street, Barre).  We encourage people to call the store the day of, to confirm the Donation Center is open before coming, as it is reliant on volunteers and on having room for more. Enter at the small door by the garage door.

We currently have a 3 bag limit. Do not use Construction/leaf bags. White, kitchen trash bag size or small boxes or bins are best for our volunteers who may be lifting them over their heads.

IMPORTANT GUIDELINES

  • DO NOT leave items outside at either our store or Donation Center. Items left outside at either location will be donated to Salvation Army as rags as they will have been exposed to the elements. If you can't donate during our hours on Saturdays, we encourage you to try the Benefit Shop, Slow Poke or the bins at walmart.

  • Clothing should be clean and in wearable condition. If you've stored them in a garage, basement, storage unit, or if you smoke, please rewash before donating.

  • We cannot accept household items, bedding, curtains, tablecloths, etc.  We do not have space/time to process items we can't use. Try ReSource for these items.

  • Furniture: if you have bunk beds, twin frames, dressers, cribs (no recalls) we may choose to store these for when foster, adopt, kin or birth parents or youth who aged out of foster care need them.

Your donation is tax deductible. We can provide a receipt. Donors determine the value of each item. Use 30% of the original cost as the value.

Financial donations allow us to lift up more families and children.
